It's the simple things...

It's the simple things in life that make me happy.

Like:

- watching American Idol
- when Michael does the laundry
- finding great deals at the grocery store
- road trips, especially to visit family
- knowing that Cafe Rio is just down the street
- not ever having to turn on the heat in Arizona
- laughing at others' personal history stories
- the Olympics
- blog stalking ya'll
- Michael being more of a bargain hunter than I am
- chatting with a good friend
- a good book

and today:
getting a haircut! :)

Adios, my friends!

My Olympics Commentary

I LOVE the Olympics!

Always have, always will.  I love watching competitions that normally are not on TV.  I cringe with the world when the figure skaters fall down and rejoice when the underdog comes away with the gold.  I can't remember a time when I didn't watch the Olympics.

It was pretty darn cool to be living in Utah when the 2002 Olympics rolled through town.  Yeah, I went to Olympic events in 2002 in Salt Lake City.  It was awesome - a once-in-a-lifetime kind of awesome.

However, my big bone to pick this year is the lack of live coverage here in Arizona.  Seriously?  We are one time zone away from Vancouver and yet we don't get anything live?  We get the tape delay in prime-time.  Whatever.  It so ruins the fun knowing my family and friends back east are getting the live coverage and I have to wait a couple of hours to catch up, when there's no reason we can't all watch together from coast to coast.

We got the Superbowl live here and other such sporting events.  But not the Olympics?  Really?

I'm not bitter or anything.  :)

In the meantime, jealousy consumes me

So here I sit in sunny Arizona with the patio door open, enjoying the blue sky and slight breeze.  Is it wrong to wish my sun and warm temps away to be in the DC area with my family?  Yup, this is what they are sitting at home and looking at right now:

holy snow, Batman!

Wow.  Wow.  Wow.

So you tell me.  Is my jealousy justified?  Or am I just insane?!?

P.S.  Thanks Mom and Todd for the pics. :)

Viva Las Vegas!

My family has been involved with the Miss America Organization in one form or another for many, many years - since I was a wee little lass.  My parents used to run a local pageant - Miss Northern Virginia - and now help out on the state level with the Miss Virginia Pageant.  Currently, my Dad and sister Shannon are both state field directors in Virginia, and my Mom helps out with the judges at the Miss VA Pageant.

Although they mostly help out at the state level, occasionally they attend the Miss America Pageant, both in Atlantic City (back in the day) and now Las Vegas.  The 2010 Miss America Pageant was last week in Las Vegas.  My parents and brother Todd decided to make the trek from VA to NV for the preliminaries.

Being that Vegas is only a six hour drive from here, I decided to leave Michael at home (OK, he couldn't go because of work ;) and go see them for a few days.  It was nice to be there with a car - we were able to see more than just The Strip, including downtown Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam.  Fun times were had by all.

Congrats to Caressa Cameron, Miss Virginia... now Miss America 2010!

this is what the drive from AZ to NV looks like for the most  part
