Gettysburg, chocolate, and the Amish

Where can you find all of the above?

In Pennsylvania, of course!  A few weeks ago you might have seen us as well, celebrating our anniversary.  We really do live it up, don't we?

We had a free weekend, a few extra bucks, and a tank full of gas.  We started our adventure in Gettysburg.  Neither one of us had been there before.  I'm ashamed to say I've lived this close most of my life and had never been.

Anyhoo... Gettysburg is lovely, both the town

 and the battlefields.

After a few hours in Gettysburg, we headed to Hershey, PA.

We thought we'd be able to go to Hershey Park that evening, but apparently we needed to wait one more weekend before the park was open weekends for Halloween.  This is as about as close as we got:
Bummer.

The next morning we went to the Hershey Gardens, which sits on the hillside overlooking the town of Hershey.

Everything was decked out in its Fall best.

It was gorgeous.

They had a kids garden... where the big kids seemed to enjoy themselves.

If nothing else, it was a great backdrop for a better-than-normal self portrait.

After our garden adventures, we stopped for a bit in Lancaster, PA, home to a large Amish population.  We soooo played tourist and went to the Amish Village.  This was all new to Michael.  I guess you don't learn much about the Amish growing up in Tucson, AZ?

This was above the door to the Amish school, one on the outside and one on the inside.

Sound familiar, anyone?

Of course, no trip is complete without dinner at a delightfully tacky Mexican restaurant. :)

Fun times were indeed had by all.  See you next time, Pennsylvania!
